In a surprising turn of events, it is being reported that Federal Judge Bunning has held Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis in Contempt of Court and remanded to federal custody. He instructed Federal Marshalls to take her into custody until she complies.
Here's the breaking report from The Courier Journal:
"U.S. Judge David Bunning found Rowan County clerk Kim Davis in contempt. She was escorted out of the courtroom and remanded into the custody of a federal marshal. The judge says she can be released as soon as she is willing to comply."
"A county clerk in Kentucky who refuses to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples on religious grounds was found in contempt of court by a U.S. federal judge on Thursday and taken into custody.
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis was led away by U.S. marshals.
"The court doesn't do this lightly," District Court Judge David Bunning said in ordering she be taken into custody."
Just yesterday, Dan Savage made astute assertions toward her actions in an interview with MSNBC, refuting her claims.
Kim Davis has been on a religous tirade since the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality this year. Enough to file appeals at every level, then blatantly denying rullings against her all the way up to the Supreme Court. Monday, in response to Davis continuing to deny marriage licenses was finally called to court to face Federal Judge Bunning to explain her actions. Now, Davis is being remanded to jail by federal marshalls until she complies.
This is a developing story.
Do you think this is an adequate punnishment for Kim Davis? What do you think will be the outcome once she is remnded to federal prison?
